What is a morkie?

...also referred to as "yorktese" or "malkie". I stick with "Morkie"

Morkies are one of the most popular toy sized designer pups today. This is a not a purebred; morkies are considered a "designer" breed. A mix of two purebreds...in this case, 1/2 maltese and 1/2 yorkie. This is not a mutt. A mutt is a dog of unknown ancestry....we know what is in a morkie and can make a reasonable prediction of how they will mature.

The best way to determine the characteristics of a morkie is to read about both the maltese and yorkie.....a morkie will inherit traits from both breeds.

Morkies are affectionate, loyal, devoted, and loving.

Morkies are strictly companions, to be with their humans!
Morkies can live a long time....15 years or more.
They are a small dog weighing between 4-7 lbs and about 7-9 inches tall.
They are generally healthy, but are prone to typical small dog conditions such as luxating patellas.
Most morkies are born with the yorkie coloring which will fade significantly as the puppy matures. However, there are other colors such as black, cinnamon, champagne, parti marked...
Morkies can have ears up or ears down.
Morkies are considered hyperallergenic.
Morkies have a non-shedding coat that will grow into a flowing mantle of hair.
They require regular grooming!
Morkies are bred to be companions and require a home where they are a part of the family.
This is an INSIDE dog not able to withstand extreme temperatures.

I, personally, prefer the black/tan coloring.

I leave the tails long! (In fact, many european countries have banned the docking of tails on all breeds)

When looking for a morkie; look for a breeder who selects purebred morkie parents that meet their respective breed standard. Maltese and yorkies should weigh from 4-7 lbs and have long straight coats and good pigment.
